Zakumi our official mascot:
One thing is for sure, Zakumi will be first on the dancefloor and last off it at the biggest party in the world - the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. He wants to dance and entertain as many people as he can. He is an animator for fans, players and officials, for schoolchildren, teenagers and big kids alike!
Needless to say, he is extremely proud to be the Official Mascot and determined to be the best host for everyone visiting his beloved country. He symbolizes South Africa and the rest of the African continent through his self-confidence, pride, hospitality, social skills and warm-heartedness. Zakumi is a jolly, self-confident, adventurous, spontaneous, and actually quite shrewd little fellow.
He loves to perform and always follows his instinct and intuition, yet sometimes has the tendency to exaggerate a bit. You will often find him fooling about and teasing people but not in a mean way. He is warm-hearted and caring, and wants to make as many friends as possible.
On 4 December 2009, was the day that all soccer fans were waiting for. The final draw for the 2010 Soccer World Cup took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the final 32 teams taking part in the 2010 world cup tournament and the groups they will play in was announced.

Interesting facts about our stadiums
The 64 football matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ will be played in nine South African cities – Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Bloemfontein, Rustenburg and Pretoria.
Of the ten stadiums, five are to be upgraded – with one of them, Soccer City in Johannesburg, being given a major upgrade. The other five will be constructed afresh.
The national government has – in addition to the money already dispersed to host cities for planning – allocated a total of R8.4-billion for stadiums, broken down into:
R7.62-billion for stadium construction and upgrading
R0.58-billion for the supply of utilities and services to the stadiums
R0.20-billion for overlay items at each stadium
The R8,4-billion set aside for stadiums will be spread over four years:
R600 000 000 for the 2006/07 financial year
R1 260 672 000 for the 2007/08 financial year
R3 600 000 000 for the 2008/09 financial year
R2 939 328 000 for the 2009/10 financial year
